Recently a computer virus has been spread through a mail over the college networks of Columbia on 13 February. It all started while an employee opened an email later it attacks college communication

network. But President Janet Smith declared that not a single student data has been leaked through the Computer Virus Attack in Columbia.

President Smith also added that all the campuses were grounded due to the computer virus attack in

other areas as well like Franklin, Clifton, Lawrenceburg and Lewisburg. On Monday and Tuesday,

students didn’t get to enter into the college community network as the campuses were closed.

According to Smith, all were okay till Wednesday and the virus came to itself on Thursday night. The

college community found it when at Friday they discovered that the computers were not functioning as usual and being shaky.

Some information also has been collected on the issue of computer virus attack in Columbia from

Richard Locker, the Tennessee Board of Regents Director of Communication. He said that none of the colleges were shut off due to lack of cybersecurity before while there are other 13 community colleges and 27 college of applied technology. Locker was really worried that it happened. He also stated that all the closing campuses and shutting down the networking communities’ steps were taken only because of the safety and security.

Again, Smith indicated the seriousness of the computer virus attack in Columbia by saying that the virus was difficult to control once it was activated.

Though the colleges were open from Wednesday following the shut-off days. Most students thought the closing was due to the flood that took place throughout the weekend, while only a few knew that it happened due to the computer virus attack in Columbia.

Few students raised there voice as well over their Facebook all by claiming to know the reason for closing the campus for two days. A few of them stated that they were aware of the computer issue and they were concerned about the college grounding continued two days.

How did the authority face the challenge?

While these institutions were closed Smith was worried about the students and the challenge that

seemed to approach due to the shut-off and the upcoming Midterm and accommodation for that.

Locker knew that they might face a reflective reaction from the students as it was a conservative move due to the computer virus attack in Columbia. Yet he warned that as they had to take such a step which means that the threat on the information system is increasing gradually.

Columbia is lucky to have a great technology team to handle the stuff. No information was leaked and no laws were broken due to the computer virus attack in Columbia. The information security team was able to stop the virus from spreading.

Students were informed on the following Tuesday to let them know about the situation through email.
